Surviving in the South Africa Desert »

Each year tourism travel to South Africa Game Reserves and is one of world’s finest tourist destination.  South Africa’s midday temperature can reach from 100 to 120 degree Fahrenheit causing dehydration and sunstroke and  kills in hours of starvation. There even wildlife super-predators which can kill even faster.

In the event you got lost in the desert of south Africa and tries to find your way out to civilization, the way to survive and defend yourself from predators is:

Make a spear for protection from predators

If you are behind any brushes and sighted  lions up ahead of you, do not turn around quickly and run, but just back up walking backward slowly to where you have a little bit of cover. If you do run, it can trigger their instant to come after you faster and harder to make a kill.  In the ancient day; human use spear as tools to go hunting and for protection, so it best to find a 8 to 9 feet long wooden stick to make a spear f0r protection than having nothing on hands.

Use a Shadow Stick as a Compass

To make a compass, simply place a stick straight up in the ground so you can see its shadow.  Use a small object and place it on the very top of where the shadow is seen.  A small rock or a leaf will work great.  Wait about 20 minutes and the shadow will begin to move West.  Again, mark the very tip of the shadow with an object and mark the sand or dirt with a “W” for West.  Since you know that this mark is West, the first line is North.  Draw straight lines vertically and horizontally to mark each direction.  It is extremely important to label them so you don’t forget.

Build a shelter from thorn branch

If you found a thorn branch on the ground, use it to build a shelter from lots thorn branch to protect from predators like lions. The shelter should be taller shape like a dome and have more bigger space to move around. The thorn may help prevent lion from entering straight into you. If the lion jump up across from the wall of thorn branch, you may want to use the spear which you may already have to attack the lion before the lion hit the ground to attack face to face.

Sources of Food and Water

In the desert, the most pressing need is water, once you have that, you can live for about 3 weeks without food. When looking for food, it’s important to note that you should be careful before starting on your quest, because there are poisonous plants and venomous reptiles and insect. But that doesn’t mean you should starve to death. If you must eat, here are some tips you should consider. The food sources you can exploit are determined by the habitat you are in. Vary your diet to make sure you get the appropriate proportions of fat, protein, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins.

You may find Ostrich eggs canteen in the desert and if it smell good it can be your food resource and if it is bad it still can can be use as water container.

If you seen bird flying at a distant, it may be a sign that there water because  they’ll often circle over water.

Reptiles are a good protein source and relatively easy to catch. Thorough cooking and hand washing is imperative with reptiles. All reptiles are considered to be carriers of salmonella, which exists naturally on their skin.

You should have food bar with you in a backpack whenever you out in the wilderness or desert adventure  to prepare for starvation if lost.

Start A Fire

These days, people carry cell phone in their pocket wherever they goes. A cell phone battery can be use to generate a spark. Use of this method depends on the type of battery available. Attach a wire to each terminal. Touch the ends of the bare wires together next to the tinder so the sparks will ignite it. Even any regular battery can make a spark to start a fire.

Magnifying glass  which is a reading glass and can start a fire very easily from the sun. Always bring it along with you to any jungle and desert adventures.

You can start a fire with tinder fungus. Hold the bottle water in one hand and a tinder fungus in another hand. Use the sun to aim the tinder fungus with the bottle water just like a magnifying glass.

Survival Kits: How to Survive in the Wilderness and the Desert »

If you a person that likes to go hiking, camping, water rafting, mountain climbing and any other outdoor activities away from urban areas to an area which is rural or deserted; you should  always prepared to bring along  survival kits just in case if you get lost or injury and no one is available to assist you or find you. Assume that you did not have or forgotten to bring any survival kits with you while on your journey, there are others ways to survive if you ever got lost in a wilderness or deserted area till darkness.

Keep Fear Under Control

It is completely natural to be afraid when you are faced with any survival situation. However, if you are going to survive in the wilderness or the desert, you must keep your thoughts clear and make sure you are not held captive by fear. The more your fear overcomes you, the lower your chances are of survival as your mind is going to become clouded and panic may set in.

Look For a Shelter or Build One

Build or find a shelter to stay warm when its extremely cold in the wildness area and find a shade to rest and stay cool when it extremely hot in the desert. Building a shelter can be very complicated or very simple, depending where you are. If you happen to be in a desert, then there will be very little for you to work with. Obviously cold is one of the primary dangers you face when you must survive in the wildness and hot is one of the primary dangers you face when you must survive in the desert. Desert can also be cold at night especially in the winter times. It is crucial that you do all you can to stay dry and keep your body temperature up when it cold and wear light clothing when it hot to prevent sweat. Any extra clothing, keep it over your head and arms to prevent sunburn. Never stop to sleep or quit moving around unless you have appropriate shelter to prevent frostbites and insect bites. In the forest or the wilderness, the way to build a shelter to provide protection from any elements  is to find a fallen tree and cover it with other branches and brush so that you can stay in the natural pit underneath the tree trunk. Shelter is a very important aspect of being able to survive in the cold.

Find a Source of Food and Water

Whether this can be cactus in the desert, deer hunting, rodents in the forest, eating fish or berries, this is crucial. Food is probably the thing that will keep you going the most. You can go for 2 to 3 weeks the most without food, but you can only live for 3 days without water. In the woods, look for water by looking for a stream or lake. In the desert, look around and see if there are any green plants or mountains around. Mountains would be a very good place to start because water condenses high up in the desert, along with the fact that mountains have natural dips and shelters in them for you and there may be a pool of water there for you. If you have bottle water with you, do not drink all at once, but just drink a small amount of water every hour. If you find a mostly dry streambed with just a small patch of wet earth, dig underneath to find water. Another method of obtaining water is to save your empty plastic bottle for the sun rays to create water inside the bottle and if you have a plastic bag, seal a plastic bag over a green plant. As the plant transpires the water vapor will collect inside the bag.

Start a Fire

If you are surrounded by wood and kindling. The four parts of creating a fire are spark, tinder, fuel and oxygen.  The most difficult part of starting a fire is the spark. Obviously, if you have a lighter or matches this is not a problem. But if not, you can attempt to use a dry narrow pointed stick and a dry flat piece of wood. Make as much friction as possible by rubbing the pointed stick along the flat piece with some kindling in the direct area of the friction. This requires a great deal of work, but if done correctly, a fire can be started.  You can also start a fire with a flint and steel and is a more difficult way of starting a fire. You will need more tinder. Strike the flint and steel so that the sparks hit threw tinder. Once that is burning, feed until you have a nice blaze going. without a fire, it going to be very difficult to survive when its too cold.

Signal Planes or Helicopter Passing Overhead

prepare to signal planes or helicopter passing overhead can lead a pilot to call for help or a rescuer to arrive to rescue  you right on time. If you have flares available, shoot one off whenever you see a plane. During the day keep a smoky fire burning; at night, a bright, clean burning one. Spell out the word SOS on the ground as large as you can using whatever materials you can find.

One life to lives, so protect yourself from disaster and defend yourself from an attacker »

When people are ill, they protect themself  by going to their doctor, hospital, and other clinic for a check up. When you are  being attacked by someone, you should be able to protect yourself by having  self defense tools with you at all times. Before any disaster such as an man made disaster, earthquake, tsunami,  tornado, or hurricane, you should be already prepared with survival kits stored up in your home and office.

A California preacher who claims he has deciphered the date of what he calls “Judgment Day” as depicted in the Bible was waiting for the end of the world on Saturday May 21, 2011. The California Preacher was partly right and wrong about the world coming to an end. What the Preacher was wrong about of course is that the world did not end on May 21, 2011 at 6:00 PM. What is correct about the world ending is that everyday people are dying  around the world of disease, wars, disasters caused by nature and man, heart attacks, accidents, and even a victim of murder or other crimes. People are dying every minute just like babies are born every minute around the world. When a person or an animal is dead, that mean the world did came to an end for them, but not for the survivor.

The Preacher’s prediction didn’t come true and no one can predict where and when an earthquake, tornado, hurricane, tsunami and even an attacker going to attack you from behind until they felt or see it happen.  No one can predict how long they will live in their life time and people’s lives can be cut short at anytime and any place, so protect yourself before it happens to you.
